Suchitra Durai appointed as the next ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand
Suchitra Durai was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand. Suchitra Durai is an Indian Foreign Service Officer (IFS) of 1988 batch. She is at present, the High Commissioner of India to Kenya.


Sikkim wins FAO’s Future Policy award 2018
Sikkim was awarded UN Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) Future Policy Gold Award (Gold Prize) for its achievement in becoming the world’s first totally organic agriculture state. Sikkim beat out 51 other nominees from around the world for the award. Policies from Brazil, Denmark and Quito (Ecuador) were jointly Silver Awards.


Great Britain beats India to win Sultan Johar Cup Junior Hockey
In Hockey, Great Britain lifted the 2018 Sultan of Johor Cup. In Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Great Britain defeated India in the final. The other teams in the tournament were Japan, Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand. Great Britain, who finished runners-up last year, secured their second Sultan of Johor Cup title by virtue of this win.


ICICI Prudential MF’s Nimesh Shah new Amfi chairman
ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company Managing Director and Chief Executive Nimesh Shah has been elected as the chairperson of industry body Amfi. Shah has replaced A Balasubramanian, chief executive officer of Aditya Birla Sun Life MF, who took over as Amfi chairman in 2016.


Bihar Deputy CM releases book ‘Lalu-Leela’ on scams by Lalu Prasad
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi released a book named ‘Lalu-Leela’, at an event in Patna. The book has nearly 200 pages. It is about alleged illegal dealings of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members. This is Sushil Modi’s second book. His first book ‘Beech Samar Mein’ (In the Middle of War) was released two years back.


15 October: International Day of Rural Women
International Day of Rural Women was celebrated all over the world. In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly, declared October 15 as International Day of Rural Women. It was first observed in 2008. The theme for International Day of Rural Women 2018 is ‘Sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection for gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls’.


Shanghai Masters: Novak Djokovic beats Borna Coric
Novak Djokovic continued his superb form by beating Croatia’s Borna Coric in the final of the Shanghai Masters. Coric, the 13th seed, upset Roger Federer in semi-finals to reach his first Masters 1000 final.


International conference on the future of the Indian Ocean held in Colombo
The Indian Ocean: Defining our Future” Conference was held at Temple Trees, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is aimed to explore strongest challenges in the Indian Ocean region. The inaugural address of the Conference was delivered by President Maithripala Sirisena while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe delivered the keynote address.
