Indian Hockey player To Get Honorary Doctorate

Indian Professional Hockey Player Sandeep Singh has been honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Desh Bhagat University, a private educational institution in Amloh, Fatehgarh Sahib District of Punjab. He is the second Indian hockey player to receive this award after Dileep Tirkey, former hockey captain and present Member of Parliament.


Hindi Scholar and Writer Surendra Verma selected for Vyas Samman 2016 Award

Surendra Verma, a well known Hindi scholar and writer, was selected for Vyas Samman 2016 Award. He was chosen for the prestigious award for his novel “Katna Shamika Vriksha”. Verma will be the 26th recipient of this prestigious award. Vyas Samman was instituted in 1991 by the KK Birla Foundation and carries a cash award of Rs.3.50 lakh, a citation and a logo.


Govt appoints 5 new Judges to Supreme Court

Five new judges are appointed to the Supreme Court by the President Pranab Mukherjee. Now the total number of judges in the Supreme Court raised to 28 from 23. New judged are Madras HCCJ Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Rajasthan HCCJ Naveen Sinha, Kerala HCCJ Mohan M.Shantanagouder, Chhattisgarh HCCJ Dipak Gupta, Karnataka HCJ S. Abdul Nazeer. Supreme Court consisting of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and other 30 Judged.


Palaniswami takes oath as TM CM along with 30 ministers

K. Palaniswami was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor Vidyasagar Rao. Palaniswami took oath first, followed by 30 ministers in four batches. The swearing in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan. This is the third ministry in the last 10 months since AIADMK won the assembly elections in May 2016.


Food grain Production to reach record 272 million tonnes in 2016-17

It is higher by 6.94 million tonnes than the previous record production of 265 million tonnes in 2013-14. Agriculture Ministry in its 2nd advance estimates of production of major crops for 2016-17. The record is going to be made due to good rainfall and various policy initiatives taken the Government.


Vikas Swarup as High Commissioner of India to Canada

Vikas Swarup was appointed as the High Commissioner of India to Canada. A decision in this regard was taken by the Union Ministry External Affairs (MEA) on 16 February 2017. At the time of elevation Swarup was working as the spokesperson of the MEA. In his nearly over three-decades long career, he represented India in Various positions.


Shan Rukh Khan to host Hindi Version of Ted Talks

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan will soon host the Hindi Version of popular International Show TED Talks. Star India will air the Indian Version-TED Talks India. This is the first time TED is collaborating with a net work and mega-star to produce a TV series featuring Original TED talks in a language other than English.


Scientists Create Graphene from Soybeans

A group of Scientists from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) created a strongest material graphene. Graphene is a carbon material that is the atom thick. It is made by soybean. Its this composition and high conductivity, it is used applications ranging from miniaturized electronics to biomedical devices. It was used in computers, solar panels, batteries, sensors, and soon.


IMF opens technical centre in New Delhi

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has opened a first of its kind South Asia Training and Technical Assistance centre (SARTTAC) in New Delhi for economic capacity building in South Asia. It will work to support local member countries of South Asia via India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka to build human and institutional capacity and implement policies for growth and poverty reduction.
