First Crisis Centre For Women Launched In MP

In a first in the country, Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal now has a One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) named ‘Gauravi’ for women who are victims of violence. It was launched by the Bollywood actor Amir Khan. It will provide help and assistance to rape survivors and victims of dowry harassment, domestic violence and other atrocities on women, all under one roof.The OSCC will provide legal advice, medical aid and police assistance.


World Day To Combat Desertification Observed On 17 June 2014

World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) was observed across the world on 17 June 2014. Theme for 2014 WDCD  was Land Belongs to the Future – Let’s Climate Proof It. The theme highlights that the benefits of the mainstreaming sustainable land management policies and practices into our collective response to climate change.  The World Day to Combat Desertification has been observed since 1995 to promote public awareness relating to international cooperation to combat desertification and the effects of drought.  The United Nations General Assembly in 1994 with its Resolution A/RES/49/115 declared World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought to promote public awareness of the issue and implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in those countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification, particularly in Africa.
