Karnataka Won Ranji Trophy 2013-14

Karnataka on 2 February defeated Maharashtra by seven wickets to win the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 at Hyderabad. Karnataka, while chasing a target of 157 runs on the last and fifth day of the tournament was successful to clinch winning by losing only three wickets in the second innings. Karnataka bowlers R Vinay Kumar and Shreyash Gopal claimed four wickets each. The remaining two wickets of Maharashtra team were taken by Abhimanyu Mithun.


Oscar Winning Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman Died

Philip Seymour Hoffman, who won a best actor Oscar in 2006 for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in “Capote” and created a gallery of other vivid characters, many of them slovenly and slightly dissipated comic figures, died on 2 February. He was nominated for Oscars four times in all. In “The Master,” he was nominated for the 2013 Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role as the charismatic leader of a religious movement. The film, partly inspired by the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, reunited the actor with Anderson.
