Jalaj Srivastava appointed as new IWAI Chairman
IWAI comes under the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways headed by Nitin Gadkari. He served as Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) & Principal Secretary of Department of VAT, Delhi Government. Srivastava is known for the launching of ‘Shakti Cab’ and ‘URJA’ project for women.


2-Day Annual Meeting of WEF Global Future councils held in Dubai
The two-day annual meeting of World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Future Councils was held in Dubai, the UAE. Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the opening session.


ACC appointed Sumanta Chaudhuri as the new Coal Secretary and many others
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi named 1985-batch IAS from West Bengal cadre Sumanta Chaudhuri as the new Coal Secretary. He replaced Inder Jit Singh. Prior to this appointment, he was the Managing Director of Small Farmers Agri Business Consortium.


Golfer Shubhankar becomes first Indian to win European Tour Rookie of the Year award
Young golfer Shubhankar Sharma capped a dream season on the European Tour by becoming the first Indian to win the tours Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. He achieved the feat soon after finishing tied 41st at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship event in Dubai.


Oracle Veteran Thomas Kurian to head Google Cloud
Oracle’s ex-product chief Thomas Kurian will head Google’s cloud division. He will replace Diane Greene. Kurian will join Google Cloud on November 26 and transition into the leadership role in early 2019. Greene, who will remain a director on the Alphabet board, had joined Google in December 2015 to run its cloud business.


Alexander Zverev is the ATP 2018 champion
Alexander Zverev beat world number one Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 to win the ATP Finals – the biggest title of the German’s fledgling career. Zverev is the first German to win the title since Boris Becker in Frankfurt in 1995 and the youngest since Djokovic won at the same age in Shanghai in 2008.


20 November: Africa Industrialization Day
The purpose of Africa Industrialization Day (AID), marked each year on 20 November, is to raise global awareness of the challenges faced by the continent with regard to industrialization. The theme for AID 2018 is ‘Promoting Regional Value Chains in Africa’.


Asia’s 1st Woman neurosurgeon TS Kanaka passed away
Asia’s first woman neurosurgeon, T.S. Kanaka, passed away in Chennai after a brief illness. She was 86. She was known to have inspired many women to take to the field of neurosurgery in the country. She also served as an army medical officer for two years during the India-China war.
