Union Cabinet Approved Launch Of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the launch of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) with components (i) to separate agriculture and non agriculture feeders facilitating judicious rostering of supply to agricultural and non-agricultural consumers in rural areas and (ii) strengthening and augmentation of sub transmission and distribution infrastructure in rural areas, including metering of distribution transformers/feeders/consumers. The estimated cost of the scheme for above two components is Rs.43,033 crore which includes the requirement of budgetary support of Rs.33,453 crore from Government of India over the entire implementation period.


US President Barack Obama Will Be Chief Guest At India’s Republic Day Celebrations

The US President Barack Obama will be the Chief Guest at 66th India’s Republic Day celebrations 2015. The White House on 21 November accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Obama will participate in the Republic Day celebrations of India, which will be held in New Delhi on 26 January 2015. He will be the first US President to attend the Republic Day Parade of India.


Indian Women Won The 3rd SAFF Women’s Football Championship

India won the third South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship on 21 November at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad. Indian team won 6-0 over Nepal to register their first series win on Pakistan soil.


World Fisheries Day Observed Across The World

The world Fisheries day was celebrated on 21 November 2014 throughout the world including Pakistan by the fisherfolk communities. A recent United Nations study reported that more than two thirds of the world’s fisheries have been over fished or are fully harvested and more than one third are in a state of decline because of factors such as the loss of essential fish habitats, pollution, and global warming.The World Fisheries Day helps in highlighting the critical importance to human lives, of water and the lives it sustains, both in and out of water. Water forms a continuum, whether contained in rivers, lakes, and ocean.The World Fisheries Day helps to highlight these problems, and moves towards finding solutions to the increasingly intercconnected problems we are facing, and in the longer term, to sustainable means of maintaining fish stocks.
