Ahmedabad to host 2016 Kabaddi World Cup

The 2016 Kabaddi World Cup will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat from October 7 to 22. Gujarat will play host to 12 kabaddi teams from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Iran, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Japan and Kenya, besides hosts India. The matches will be held in Ahmedabad’s The Arena stadium.


Asian Filmmaker award posthumously for Kiarostami at Busan

Late Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has been selected for the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award at the Busan International Film Festival beginning October 6. The 21st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has selected Kiarostami, who passed away on 4 July at the age of 76, for the award which is given to Asian cineastes or organisations that have shown the most outstanding contribution to developing the Asian film industry and culture, a release said.


World’s largest indoor theme park to open in Dubai

The world’s largest indoor theme park is set to open in Dubai this august to lure back some of the tourists and residents who often flee abroad during the scorching desert summer. In a sandy suburb beyond Dubai’s concrete jungle and pockets of artificially green spaces, IMG Worlds of Adventure’s boxy exterior belies a 140,000-square metre (1.5 million-square foot) air-conditioned cathedral of entertainment teeming with animatronic dinosaurs, roller coasters, Marvel superheroes and Cartoon Network characters. Zombies pop out from dark corners of a haunted house and the Velociraptor coaster throttles passengers within a misty simulated rain forest dubbed the Lost Valley.


GAIL signs MoU with Bloom Energy for fuel cell power generation

State-run GAIL (India) Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with California-based Bloom Energy for developing natural gas-based fuel cell power generation. The agreement was signed by GAIL chairman and managing director B C Tripathi and Bloom Energy chief executive K R Sridhar. The new technology converts fuel into electricity through an electro-chemical process and the use of water is less too in this mode of power generation.


India’s Oscar entry for 2017 to be picked by Ketan Mehta

The Film Federation of India (FFI) has kickstarted the process to cherry pick the film, which will officially represent India at the 89th Academy Awards next year. And the deadline for submitting entries for the foreign film category Oscar is October 1. Ketan Mehta has been approached to head the 17-member jury which comprises technicians and artistes within the film industry.
