Indian Origin Professor Rakesh Khurana Appointed Harvard College Dean
Indian American Professor Rakesh Khurana on 22 January was appointed as the Dean of Havard College. Presently Khurana is serving as Bower professor of leadership development at Harvard Business School (HBS) and master of Cabot House since 2010.With this appointment, Khurana has joined the long list of Indian-origin academicians, who has assumed the leadership roles at the renowned global universities.With this appointment will succeed Evelynn Hammonds, the professor of History of Science and of African and African American Studies at Harvard.
US scientists Genetically Engineer Tulasi To Increase Pharmaceutical Value
Scientists at Western Kentucky University, US genetically engineered Tulasi or basil to enhance its pharmaceutical value.Scientists genetically engineered Tulsai to produce eugenol, a compound found in basil. Eugenol has a pharmaceutical value which controls the breast cancer. Tulasi is a medicinal plant and has anti-cancerous compounds called metabolites.Tulasi is scientifically called Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum.Tulasi leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicine and it is known to promote the longevity of life.
