Prof C N R Rao awarded by Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded Prof C N R Rao, National Research Professor and Honorary President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCAR), the prestigious “International Scientific Cooperation Award 2012”. The award is designed to acknowledge outstanding scientists for their contribution to science and for promoting global networking of international science cooperation.


David Headley sentenced for 35 years for 26/11 role(Mumbai attacks)

Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorist David Headley was on 24 January 2013 sentenced to 35 years in jail by a Chicago court for his ‘unquestionable’ role in the massacre of 166 people in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.


Shah Rukh Khan tops Forbes India celebrity list

According to the “Celebrity 100 special” introduced by the Forbes India magazine ,Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , tops the first Forbes India Celebrity 100 with annual estimated earnings last year of $37.7m. In the list — a ranking of the country’s biggest entertainers based on income and popularity —fellow actor Salman Khan came in second with estimated earnings of $30m. In third place was India’s cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni with $25m.


UR Ananthamurthy shortlisted for Man Booker Prize

Kannada author and gyanpeeth award receiver UR Ananthamurthy had been shortlisted among 10 other authors for the international Man Booker Prize for fiction. Ananthamurthy, 80, is the only Indian among to have made it to the final list of the prestigious prize announced at the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival in Jaipur on 24 January 2013.This award will be announced on May 22nd .


National Girl Child Day Celebrated In India on 24 January

24 January, National Girl Child Day: This day is celebrated as the National Girl Child Day every year by the Government of India with an objective to raise consciousness of Indian society towards the girl children.The Women and Child Development Ministry observed National Girl Child Day on 24 January 2013. 24 January is celebrated as the National Girl Child Day every year since 2008 by the Government of India.
