China Launched Experimental Spacecraft To Fly Around Moon
China on 24 October launched an unmanned spacecraft to fly around the moon and back to Earth in order to test technologies to be used in the Chang’e-5, a future probe that will conduct the country’s first Moon mission with a provision to return back. The lunar orbiter was launched atop an advanced Long March-3C rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
Asian Nations Launched $100 Bn Infrastructure Bank
India along with 20 other countries on 24 October signed an agreement to become founding members of the China-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to aid the infrastructure development in the Asian region and reduce the dependence on Western-dominated World Bank and IMF. China’s Vice Finance Minister Jin Liqun, who was also the former Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank, has been appointed as the Secretary General of AIIB. The MoU specifies that the authorised capital of AIIB is $100 billion and the initial subscribed capital is expected to be around $50 billion.
Murali Lanka Is Wal-Mart India’s New CEO
Murali Lanka was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WalMart India on 24 October. WalMart India is the fully owned Indian subsidiary of the world’s biggest retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Murali Lanka will lead store operations, sales and business development, membership and marketing and asset protection functions for the Best Price Modern Wholesale stores.
Veteran Tamil Actor SS Rajendran Died
Tamil cinema’s Yesteryear actor S.S. Rajendran was died on on 24 October at Chennai. He was 85. Sedapatti Suryanarayana Devar Rajendran, commonly known by his stage name S. S. Rajendran (SSR), was the contemporary of legendary actor Shivaji Ganeshan. Some of his famous movies were ‘Ratha Kanner’, ‘Rangoon Radha’ and ‘Sivagangai Seemai’.
