Union Cabinet Approved ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’

The Union Cabinet on 24 September approved the “Swachh Bharat Mission” aimed at creating a clean India by 2019 with people’s participation. The clean India campaign will now be called “Swachh Bharat” Mission. The urban component of the Mission is proposed to be implemented over 5 years starting from October 2, 2014 in all 4041 statutory towns.


Mars Orbiter Mission Successfully Enters Red Planet Orbit

India on 24 September made history by becoming the first country in the world to enter the Martian orbit in its maiden attempt. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully inserted the Mars Orbiter into the red planet’s orbit. The state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the fourth international space agency after National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the US, Russian Federal Space Agency (RFSA) and European Space Agency to undertake a mission to Mars. It aims to study Mars’ surface and mineral composition, and scan its atmosphere for methane, a chemical strongly tied to life on Earth.
