Parupalli Kashyap Wins Austrian Open

Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap overcame Malaysia’s June Wei Cheam in straight games in the men’s singles final to clinch the Austrian Open International Challenge, his first international title in over three years. The Indian looked in good touch throughout the tournament as he didn’t drop a single game en route to his title win.


Mary Kom steps into finals Strandja Memorial Tournament

In Boxing, MC Mary Kom stormed into the Finals of the Strandja Memorial Tournament at Sofia in Bulgaria while Vikas Krishan and two other male boxers entered the semifinals. In the Women’s 48 kg category, five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom, targetting her third successive international gold medal, defeated China’s Ye Jiali to make the summit clash. However, former world and Asian champion L Sarita Devi bowed out in the 60 kg section with a bronze medal. Meena Kumari Devi in 54 kg also settled for a Bronze. In the Men’s draw, former Asian Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan in 75 kg, Asian Games bronze medallist Satish Kumar in +91 kg and Gaurav Solanki in 52 kg advanced to the semi-finals to assure themselves of medals. Earlier, Amit Panghal in 49 kgs had also made it to the last-4. It was a significant victory for Vikas, who is returning to action after recovering from a hand injury, which forced him out of the national championships as well as the India Open.


Aruna Reddy makes history

Aruna Budda Reddy created history by becoming the 1st Indian gymnast to win an individual medal at Gymnastics World Cup as she clinched a bronze in women’s vault event. She scored 13.649 average points to finish 3rd & claim the bronze medal. This was Aruna’s first international medal, though she has taken part at World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Commonwealth Games & Asian Games.


Legendary Bollywood Actress Sridevi Passes Away

Veteran Bollywood actress and Padma Shri awardee Sridevi, who had an illustrious career spanning over four decades, passed away. She was 54. Sridevi was died due to cardiac arrest in Dubai. She went on a hiatus for 15 years after starring in home production — “Judaai” — co-starring her brother-in-law Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar. It was director Gauri Shinde’s “English Vinglish” in 2012 that marked Sridevi’s comeback.

India presented with ICC Test mace

The International Cricket Council presented the ICC Test Championship Mace to Virat Kohli after the end of the final T20 International against South Africa. Kohli received the ICC Test Championship mace on behalf of Team India for the second consecutive year for being the number one Test team. This is the fourth time that India has been presented with the prestigious mace.
