Boxer Manoj Kumar Received Arjuna Award

Commonwealth Games gold medallist boxer Manoj Kumar received the prestigious Arjuna Award from Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on 26 November. Earlier, Manoj was denied the award by the Kapil Dev-led selection committee, as it believed that he was involved in a doping case. The committee recommended name of another boxer Jai Bhagwan for the coveted honour.After being denied the coveted medal, Manoj had approached the Sports Ministry. After being snubbed for a second time in the review meeting, Manoj took the legal route and filed a case in the Delhi High Court. He won the case which led to the Ministry accepting his nomination for the award.


West Bengal Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill 2014 Passed

The West Bengal Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill 2014 was passed in the Assembly. The Bill amends the West Bengal Land Reforms Act 1955 to bring fisheries, townships, transportation terminals, logistic hubs, medical institutions, oil and gas products, piped transportation, mining and allied activities in the list of industries which are eligible to hold land in excess of the applicable land ceiling.


Michael Phelps Crowned Male Athlete of the Year at Golden Goggle Awards

Michael Phelps has been crowned Male Athlete of the Year for a fifth time at the 2014 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Awards despite being suspended from competition for six months after a drunken driving arrest in September 2014.


Union Government Announced Swachh Bharat Kosh Operational Guidelines

The Union Government announced Swachh Bharat Kosh Operational Guidelines, 2014 which will come into force with immediate effect.The Kosh was announced to achieve the objective of cleanliness across India. The fund will be utilised to build toilets in schools of rural and urban areas.
