PM Narendra Modi, Kailash Satyarthi Among World’s Greatest Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nobel prize winner Kailash Satyarthi have been named among the 50 greatest leaders in the world by Fortune magazine on 27 March 2015.  Narendra Modi is ranked 5th on the 2015 roster of ‘World’s Greatest Leaders’ with Satyarthi coming in at the 28th spot. The list has been topped by Apple CEO Tim Cook.  A notable exclusion from the list is US President Barack Obama, who has not been named in the list for a second year in a row.


Former Mizoram Chief Minister Brig Sailo Died

Former Mizoram Chief Minister Brig Thenphunga Sailo was died on 27 March in Aizawl. He was 93. Born on January 1, 1922, Sailo had joined the British Indian army in 1942 as a junior officer. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier of Indian army in 1966, the year the erstwhile Mizo National Front (MNF) declared independence from the Union. When he retired from the army in 1974, he had formed the Human Rights Committee to ease the lives of Mizo people reeling under insurgency and alleged army excesses. Sailo had formed a political party called Mizoram Peoples Conference in April 17, 1975 and it won the Mizoram union territory elections in 1977 and he became the second chief minister of the state. He was elected to the state assembly in 2008 for the last time and quit active politics at the age of 92 after his term ended in 2014.


I & B Ministry Won Web Ratna Award 2014

The Information and Broadcasting (I & B) Ministry has been awarded the Platinum icon award for Comprehensive Web presence in the Web Ratna Awards 2014. The award was conferred by Communications & Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to R. Jaya, Joint Secretary on behalf of I&B Secretary Bimal Julka along with the New Media Wing team of the Ministry. C&IT Ministry Secretary R S Sharma was also present. The award was presented to the Ministry for having a significant presence on all social media sites, which makes it accessible for users through multiple online platforms.
