Indian para-athlete Devendra Jhajharia win silver at IPC Athletics World Championship

India’s top para-athlete Devendra Jhajharia won a silver medal in men’s javelin throw F46 event in the IPC Athletics World Championship held on October 27 in Doha. He came up with a best throw of 59.06 m to finish second behind Guo Chunliang (61.89 m) of China. With this effort, Jhajharia qualified to the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.


Justice Eswar Committee formed to simplify Income Tax Laws

A high-level committee has been set up by the centre under former Delhi High Court Judge Justice R.V. Eswar to suggest simplification of Income Tax (IT) laws. The 10 member panel will study and identify the provisions in the Income Tax Act which are leading to litigation due to different interpretations. The panel will suggest alternatives and modifications to the existing provisions and areas to bring about predictability and certainity in tax laws without substantial impact on the tax base and revenue collection. The committee will give its report at the end of January, 2016.


India ranks 130 in World Bank’s 2016 report of Ease of Doing Business 

India ranked 130 position among 189 countries in World Bank’s 2016 report of Ease of Doing Business. In 2015 India ranked 134th position. India has made large improvements in two indicators, starting a business (155th rank) and getting electricity (70th rank). In this list of rankings, Singapore, New Zealand and Denmark are at the top three positions respectively.
