Bhubaneswar to host men’s hockey World League Final 2017

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and government of Odisha have recently confirmed that the Men’s Hockey World League Final 2017 and Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 will be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Fans will descend upon the Kalinga stadium to share the glory of two of hockey’s biggest events. Where World League Final 2017 and Hockey World cup 2018. The venue itself already familiar to hockey fans.


Former Punjab Minister & SAD Leader Gurdev Singh Badal Dies

Former Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurdev Singh Badal Passed away on March 28,2017 at Dayanand Medical college and Hospital, Ludhiana, He was 85. Gurdev was a senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and a member of Punjab Legislative Assembly from the Panjgrain Constituency in Jalandhar district. He had been 5 times MLA from this constituency, winning others only in 1997 and 2002.


South African Anti-Apartheid Activist, Ahmed Kathrada Dies at 87

Veteran Indian -Origin South African anti apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, who was one of Nelson Mandela’s closest aides. Ahmed was died on 29, March at a hospital in Johannesburg, at the age of 87. Ahmed was among those tried and jailed alongside Mandela in the Rivonia trial in 1964. Ahmad spent 26 years and three months in prison, 18 of which were on Robben Island.


UN appoints David Beasley to head World Food Programme

United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres has appointed former South Carolina Governor David Beasley to head the Rome based World Food Programme (WFP). Beasley will run the affairs of the World’s largest humanitarian organization, serving more than 90 million beneficiaries in 80 countries. He will replace another American, Ertharin Cousin, who has been the WFP executive director since 2012.


UK Minister Priti Patel receives Pravasi Bharatiya Samman

On 28th March 2017, Indian-Origin British Cabinet Minister, Priti Patel received Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) in London from Y.K Sinha, the Indian High Commissioner to United Kingdom (UK). This Award was given to Priti Patel for her outstanding contribution to national and international politics. Her role is strengthening relation between United Kingdom and India, and her support to Indian Diaspora in the UK.
