Krishna Chaudhary Appointed as new ITBP Director General

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Krishna Chaudhary will take over as the new Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Chaudhary, who is currently the Director General of the Railway Protection Force, is a 1979-batch Bihar cadre officer. He has been appointed for two years. He succeeds Subhas Goswami who retired on December 31, 2014. Between January 1 and January 30, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Prakash Mishra was holding additional charge as ITBP chief.


Hanumanthu Purushotham Took Charge As CMD of NRDC

Eminent scientist Hanumanthu Purushotham took charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of National Research Development Corporation (NRDC). Earlier, he was Scientist-G and Head of Knowledge Management Centre at International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Department of Science and Technology at Hyderabad. With about 30 years of diverse experience across the innovation value chain in different industry verticals, he had served as scientist in various capacities in various CSIR laboratories of the country.


Gujarat Chief Minister Launched Taluka Planning Atlas

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel launched ‘Taluka Planning Atlas’ project under which an atlas of 100 maps showcasing various facilities as well as government schemes at village level in each taluka would be compiled. It is aimed at helping the local administration in taking effective decisions about the development in respective regions, as the maps would give precise information about the current status of various facilities and schemes.


University of Hyderabad Won visitor’s Award For ‘Best University’

University of Hyderabad (UoH) bagged the Visitor’s award for best university in the country. The award is presented by the President of the country, who is a visitor to all central universities. It will be presented to varsity authorities at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on February 4 this year. The President will also give away the Visitor’s award for innovation to Prof Vijay K Chaudhary and Dr Amita Gupta of University of Delhi, who have invented ‘TB Confirm’, a rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis. The Visitor’s award for research will be presented to cosmology and astrophysics research group, Centre for Theoretical Physics, Jamia Millia Islamia, for path-breaking research in the field of astrophysics and cosmology. The ‘Best University’ will receive a citation and trophy, while winners of Visitor’s award for innovation and research will receive a citation and cash award of Rs 1 lakh. The President had announced these awards at the vice-chancellors’ conference in 2014 with “the aim of promoting healthy competition amongst central universities and motivating them to adopt best practices from across the world,” the press release read. For selecting the winners, online applications were invited from all central universities for each category.
