30 July – World Day against Trafficking in Persons

The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed across the world on 30 July to raise awareness of the plight of victims of human trafficking and to protect their rights. Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that 21 million people around the world are victims of forced labour. This estimate also includes victims of human trafficking for labour and sexual exploitation. In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had designated July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons by adopting resolution A/RES/68/192. The resolution had declared that the day was necessary to raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.


Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale sworn in as Chief Justice of Allahabad HC

Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale was sworn in as the new chief justice of Allahabad High Court. The oath of office was administered by governor Ram Naik in Allahabad. Chief Justice Bhosale was serving as acting chief justice of high court of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Born in Mumbai in 1956, Justice Bhosale was first appointed as judge of Bombay high court in 2001, and later in 2012, he was transferred to Karnataka high court.


Kerala Tourism bags six National Tourism awards

Kerala Tourism has bagged six National Tourism awards for 2014-15 in the marketing category for states. It received two more awards, including the one for its Responsible Tourism (RT) initiative in Wayanad. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan presented the awards to Principal Secretary Venu V and Director U V Jose in the presence of Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma at a function at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Kerala Tourism received three out of the six awards for states in the Tourism Promotion and Publishing category, including the one for ‘Most Innovative use of Information Technology’ – social media/mobile app.


PM Modi wishes Rio-bound athletes in ‘Mann ki Baat’

PM Modi talked about various subjects such as health, environment, technology, Olympics games while addressing 22nd edition of ‘MannKiBaat’ programme and appealed the country to encourage the Indian contingent for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Government hospitals and other facilities will provide free medical care to needy pregnant women in the country. On 9th day of every month pregnant woman will be checked and given free medical aid. He also emphasized the need to embrace new technology, saying that the “future is going to be technology driven”. Further, Modi invited public suggestions for his August 15 Independence day speech.
