Devendra Fadnavis Sworn In As Chief Minister of Maharashtra

The BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the 27th Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 31 October. Devendra Fadnavis became the Mayor of Nagpur in 1997 when he was just 27 year old. He thus became the second youngest Mayor in India. He also was the youngest municipal corporator of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at the age of 21 in 1992. He has been elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra State, representing Nagpur, since, 1999.


First Rashtriya Ekta Diwas  was Observed On 31 October 2014

First Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed on 31 October 2014 to commemorate the 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The decision to observe 31 October as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Integration Day was taken by the Union Government to reiterate India’s strength and buoyancy against adversaries. The day was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who paid floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Patel and also flagged off the Run For Unity in New Delhi.Vallabhbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875 at Karamsand in Gujarat.


‘Deeper Integration For Peace and Prosperity’ Is 18th SAARC Summit Theme

‘Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity’ has been chosen as the theme for the upcoming 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit. The Summit is scheduled to be held on 26-27 November 2014 in Nepal.


Abhinav Bindra Elected Chairman of ISSF Athletes Committee

Abhinav Bindra, ace shooter and the country’s only individual Olympic Gold medalist, has been elected as the Chairman of International Shooting Sport Federation’s (ISSF) Athletes Committee. Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian shooter to be bestowed with the honour. Being chairman of the Athletes Committee, Bindra will also become a member of the Administrative Council of the ISSF.
