Union Govt Launched Sale Of Subsidised 5-kg LPG Cylinders For BPL

Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan on 5 January launched the sale of subsidised 5-kg LPG cylinders for below poverty line (BPL) families and others. He also announced Centre’s plan to introduce smaller cooking gas cylinders weighing even 1 and 2 kgs. The Union minister launched the scheme as part of the oil companies’ CSR activities to cover BPL population in urban areas.

Arvind Panagariya Appointed As First Vice Chairman Of NITI Aayog

Economist Arvind Panagariya has been appointed as first Vice Chairman of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog along with six members and three special invitees. Arvind Panagariya is a free-market economist who teaches at Columbia University in the US. Economist Bibek Debroy and former DRDO chief VK Saraswat were appointed as full-time members by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be the Chairman of the body that replaces the 65-year-old Socialist-era Planning Commission.

Sutirtha Bhattacharya Takes Charge As Coal India CMD

Sutirtha Bhattacharya on 5 January took charge as Coal India’s full-time Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), a post which had been lying vacant for over six months, amid the miner facing pressure to ramp up production. Prior to this, Bhattacharya was the CMD of state-owned Singareni Collieries Company.

PM Narendra Modi Launched Scheme For LED bulb Distribution In Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 January launched a scheme for distribution of LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme in Delhi and a National Programme for LED-based Home and Street Lighting. Under the scheme, consumers in Delhi will be able to request for LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) through a new website launched by Prime Minister on the same day. Consumers can register for this scheme either through the website or by sending an SMS to a designated number.
