International Literacy Day was Observed Across The World

International Literacy Day was observed across the world on 8 September 2014. The theme of International Literacy Day 2014 is Literacy and Sustainable Development. The aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individual, communities and societies. On this day, UNESCO reminds the international community of status of literacy and adult learning. International Literacy Day was designated by UNESCO on 17 November 1965. This day was first celebrated on 8 September 1966.


Indian Scientist Kamal Bawa Gets Midori Prize In Biodiversity 2014

Indian scientist Kamal Bawa, a distinguished professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, has won the 2014 Midori Prize in Biodiversity for his research, including in climate change in the Himalayas. The prize honours individuals who have made outstanding contribution to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of resources at local and global levels, and raised awareness about biodiversity.
