Uttarakhand Govt Declared September 9 As Himalaya Diwas
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat officially declared September 9 as ‘Himalaya Diwas’ – a day which would be celebrated across the State to spread the message of conservation of the Himalayan ecosystems. Rawat in his declaration announced that from 2015 onwards, the state government would celebrate the day. To mark the day, rallies and seminars were organised in various places across the state.
Neel Mukherjee Shortlisted For 2014 Man Booker Prize
Indian-origin writer Neel Mukherjee’s ‘The Lives of Others’, a dark tale set in the context of naxalism in 1960s West Bengal, has been shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Prize for Fiction, one of the most prestigious awards in the English-language literary world. His first novel, “A Life Apart” was also a critical success winning the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award for Best Fiction together with being shortlisted for the inaugural DSC Prize for South Asian Fiction.
