Sunny Pawar chosen for Rising Star Award in the UK

Child actor Sunny Pawar, best known for his Performance in the Oscar nominated film Lion, has been chosen for the Rising Star Award in UK. The award will be presented to Sunny at the 7th Annual Asian Awards. Sunny, grew up in the Mumbai Slums, shot to global fame with his role in Australian drama where he worked alongside award winning actors Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman.


 Swachh Survekshan 2017 : Indore is No-1 Cleanest City

Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been ranked as the No.1 cleanest City in the country, while Gonda in UttarPradesh has been ranked as the dirtiest, as per the “Swachh Survekhan – 2017” The results of the survey were announced on 4 May 2017 by Urban Development Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu. Bhopal has bagged the 2nd position in the ranking of  434 cities. Visakhapatnam was placed 3rd among the top ten cities, the fourth slot has been claimed by Gujarat’s Surat. Mysore which would be first in the Previous lists of clean cities, has slipped to the fifth place.


 Trump’s Obama care replacement bill passed by US House

In USA, lawmakers vote to repeal and replace Obamacare with makes Quality health insurance more affordable and available to the Americans. The Republican bill is knows as the American Health Care Act. It would repeal more Obamacare taxes, including a penalty for not buying health insurance. The bill would slash funding for medicaid, a program that provides insurance for the poor replacement.


 Prince Philip to step down from Royal Engagements 

Prince Philip is to permanently retire from royal duties. The 95 year old will no longer carry out public engagements from the Autumn. It was the Duke’s decision taken with the support of the Queen. Prince Philip will attend Previously scheduled engagements between now and August both individually and accompanying the Queen. On 3rd May, 2017 he was opened a new stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground in Central London.


 Banganapalle Mangoes receives Geographical Indication Tag

The succulent Banganapalle Mango has received a Geograpghical Indication (GI) tag, making Andhra Pradesh the proprietor of the variety known for its sweetness. The registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O.P. Gupta has accorded the registration following an Application from the Horticulture commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh Government is the registered proprietor of the GI tag for mangoes, often hailed as the king of Fruits.


 Dronacharya Awardee Wrestler Capt Chandroop Passes Away

Dronacharya Awarded and Wrestler Captain Chand Roop has passed away. He was 88, Captain Chand Roop was received Dronacharya Award in 2010. He received the award for his Contribution to Wrestling. Roop who was born in 1930 jointed the Indian Army in 1948 in Grenadiers regiment. After retirement from Army in 1979 from the post of captain, he opened an akhara at Azadpur Mandi of New Delhi in 1980.


 Indian Football Team Reached in Top 100 FIFA Ratings

Indian Football team first time reached it into the top 100 at the FIFA World Cup Ratings. And it if for the first time ever in entire 21 years Indian team reached the Final of FIFA World Cup. As per the updated rankings, the Stephen Constantine Coached side is now placed at the 100th spot along with Nicaragua, Lithuania and Estonia. India is the 11th highest placed team in entire Asia on its rankings.


 Odisha’s Sualgiri, Swalgiri Communities notified as Scheduled Castes

Odisha’s Sualgiri and Swalgi Communities have been notified as Scheduled castes following President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent to a new law. The Rajya Sabha had last month passed the bill on it after it was cleared by the Lok Sabha in March, The president gave the nod to the constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Act – 2017.


 May 4 : International Firefighters Day

International Firefighters Day (IFFD) is observed on May 4 every year. It was instituted after proposal emailed out across the World on January 4, 1999 due to deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a bushfire in Australia From then May 4 used to be a traditional Firefighters’ Day in Many European Countries, because it is the day of Saint Florian, patron saint of firefighters.


 AIIB Grants $ 160 MN for AP Power Project

China sponsored Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on 5th May, 2017 approved $ 160 MN loan for a Power Project in Andhra Pradesh. It is the first credit from this bank for an Indian Project. The Project is co-financed by the World Bank. The 24 X 7 Power of All project is part of Government of India’s Power of All Programme that was launched in 2014. AP is one of the first states selected for roll out of the programme.


 India slips to 4th Position in ICC T-20 Rankings

India Slipped to the fourth position in the ICC Twenty – 20 International team rankings in the annual update of the rankings. India dropped two places by having lost six points, giving Pakistan and England an edge to slide higher in the rankings list. In the updated list New Zealand retained its top position with 125 points, England in 2nd position with 121 points. Pakistan too joined England on 121 points after gaining five points but was placed third for being behind England by a fraction of point.
