President of India presents National Geo Science Awards 2016:

On April 12, 2017, President of India Pranab Mukherjee conferred National Geoscience Awards 2016 on 27 bright Geo-Scientists of India. The awards were conferred at a ceremony held in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The National Geoscience Awards 2016 Comprises one young scientist award and 16 individual/ teams awards in 11 fields of geosciences. Dr. Abhishek Saha, NIO, Goa got young scientist award – 2016.


Harbhajan Singh as Ambassador for ICC Champions Trophy:

Eight cricketers including Harbhajan Singh and Former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi have been appointed an ambassadors for the ICC Champions Trophy – 2017, which scheduled be held from June 1, 2017 in UK. The ambassadors will be involved in the ICC champions Trophy Tour and will participate in the cricket for good coaching clinics, a programme aimed at providing school children with an opportunity to meet and play with legends.


Narendra Modi Becomes Most followed World Leader – Instagram:

Prime Minister Narendra Mod has just topped the list, beating US President Donald Trump to bag the first spot. PM Modi has 101 posts and 6.9 million followers currently. He is also the most “Effective World leader”, an assessment made on the number of likes and comments he receives on his posts. US president Donald Trump came in second with 6.4 million followers and pope Francis came third with 3.7 million followers. There are 325 Instagram accounts of heads of state, Government and foreign ministers and whose activity was monitesed over the past year.


International Day of Human Spce Flight – April 12, 2017:

Every year 12 th April is celebrated as Internatijonal day of Human Space Flight to mark the day when the First Human Space Flight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin on 12 April, 1961. On April 7, 2011, the day was proclaimed by the UN at the 65 th session of the United Nations General. To promote aspirants to explore and maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.


Achim Steiner as New Administrator of UNDP:

United Nations Chief Antonio Gutterrs appointed Achim Steiner as new administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 12 April, 2017. Steiner, A German with extensive experience at world organization. He will succeeded Helen clark, a former New Zealand Prime Minister. Clark has steered the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) since 2009 Steiner has served at the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).


Justice Gita Mittal appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Justice Gita Mittal, the senior – most judge of Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Delhi High court with effect from April 14. Her appointment comes at the backdrop of the retirement of current Chief Justice Gorla Rohini. President of India has appointed justice Mittal as the Chief Justice by exercising his powers conferred by article 223 of the constitution of India.


India, Australia signs on Sports Partnership:

India and Australia on 12 April, 2017 started a partnership aimed at increasing cooperation in sports, in the presence of visiting Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and batting great Sachin Tendulkar. Also involved in the launch was Sports Minister Vijay Goel. It will advance India – Australia Coopration in four areas – athlete and coach training and development, sport sciene, sport governance and integrity and grassroots participation.


Petrol, Diesel prises to change every day From May 1 :

State run fuel retailers, Indian oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan petroleum, have reportedly decided to revise the prices of petrol and diesel every day from May 1. The daily revision will initially be implemented in Puducherry, Visakhapatnam, Udaipur, Jamshedpur and Chandigarh. Currently the prices are revised on 1 st and 16th of every month. And next this will be implemented through out the country.


Union Govt. launches URJA MITRA app:

The Union Ministry of power has launched Urja Mitra app for empowering citizens by real time information sharing on power supply. The app is a first of its kind, which provides a central platform, wed portal (www.Urjamitra.com) as well as mobile app for state power distribution utilities to disseminate power outage information to rural/ urban power consumers through SMS/ Push/ email notifications across the country.


Pink Patrol vehicles to secure women in Bengaluru:

The Bengaluru police have taken an initiative to increase the safety of children and women by introducing 51 pinck patrol vehicles. In addition to this, security app called ‘Suraksha’ is also launched by the Karnataka government through which women and children can send complaints to these vehicles and get quick assistance. At present the app is available on ios as well as Android Smart phones.
