Vijay Diwas was observed across the nation on 16 December 2017. The day is commemorated every year, as it marks India’s victory over Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The day’s celebrations would witness participation from many ex-servicemen who had fought in the war. This year marks the 46th anniversary of India’s victory over its neighbour. The day is celebrated as a Victory day by Bangladesh as well, as the surrender of Pakistan Armed Forces marked an end to its 9-month-long Liberation War.
