Denmark’s Mogens Lykketoft Elected as President of UN General Assembly
The United Nations General Assembly unanimously elected Denmark’s former parliament speaker Mogens Lykketoft as its President for its upcoming 70th session in September 2015. Mogens Lykketoft succeeds Uganda’s Sam Kutesa who was President of 69th session of UNGA. He will preside over the 193-member UNGA in its upcoming 70th session for one-year term.
Kapil Mishra Appointed as Delhi Jal Board Chairman
Delhi’s newly-appointed Law Minister Kapil Mishra was appointed as the chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Mishra, first-time MLA, will replace Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia as the Chairman of DJB. Earlier, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung administered oath of office and secrecy to Kapil Mishra as a Law Minister in Delhi Cabinet. Mishra was inducted in the Cabinet following the resignation of Jitender Singh Tomar as Law Minister. Tomar resignation came following his arrest by Delhi Police in connection with his fake degree case.
Sunil Chhetri Becomes First Indian Footballer To Score 50 International Goals
Sunil Chhetri on 16 June became the first Indian footballer to score 50 international goals. He achieved the fete during India’s second match of the second round of qualifiers for 2018 football World Cup qualifying group match against Guam at the Guam National Football Stadium.
World’s Thinnest Light Bulb Created From Graphene
Researchers have developed a light-emitting graphene transistor that works in the same way as the filament in a light bult. It was created by team of scientist led by Young Duck Kim comprising members from Columbia University School of Engineering, Seoul National University and Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science.
