Sanjay Jain, K M Nataraj appointed as Additional Solicitor Generals
President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed senior advocates Sanjay Jain & K M Nataraj as Additional Solicitor Generals of India. The appointments were made by the President as per the recommendations of the Appointments Committee of the cabinet.


ECI appointed Dwivedi as CEO of Andhra Pradesh
The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Gopal Krishna Dwivedi as has Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh with immediate effect. Mr.Dwivedi will replace R. P. Sisodia. The ECI termed the CEO’s replacement as an administrative decision.


Dr. Rattan Lal Honoured with 2019 Japan Prize
The Japan Prize Foundation announced India born professor Dr. Rattan Lal, University Professor of Soil Science at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A, as the recipient of the 2019 Japan Prize for his contributions in the field of ‘Biological Production, Ecology’.


GDP to be A Tad Higher to 7.5% in FY20: India Ratings
India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra), a Fitch Group Company, estimated India’s GDP growth could touch 7.5 % in the financial year 2019-20 as against 7.2 % during current fiscal i.e. 2018-19. India Ratings believes investments are slowly but steadily gaining traction with gross fixed capital formation growing 12.2 % in FY19 and projected to clock 10.3 % in FY20.


Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian athlete to be nominated in Laureus World Comeback of Year Award
Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has become the first Indian athlete to receive a nomination in the prestigious Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award. She has been nominated alongside US Tour Championship winner Tiger Woods, who won his first tournament in five years. The Awards will be presented in Monaco on the 18th of next month.


President approved elevation of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari to SC
President Ram Nath Kovind approved the elevation of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari to the Supreme Court. Justice Khanna is presently a judge of the Delhi High Court. Justice Maheshwari is the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.


Yohei Sasakawa received Gandhi Peace Prize for 2018
Yohei Sasakawa was named to receive Gandhi Peace Prize for 2018,who is the Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization for Leprosy Elimination. The award will be given to Yohei Sasakawa in recognition of his work towards the eradication of the disease in India and across the world.


Vanguard Group Founder John C. Bogle passed away
John C. Bogle, who founded the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies in 1974 and built it into a giant kingdom, with $4.9 trillion in assets under management today, died at the age of 89. Bogle was also a best-selling author,Stay the Course: The Story of Vanguard and the Index Revolution is the recent and the last masterpiece written by him.
