6 Countries suspend Membership in UNASUR Regional Bloc

Bolivian Foreign Minister Fernando Huanacuni has announced that Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Peru had decided to temporarily leave the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), given differences over choosing the secretary general of the group.

President signs ordinance to provide death penalty to rapists of girls below 12 years

President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated an ordinance that provides for stringent punishment, including death penalty, for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years. The ordinance- Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance 2018 stipulates stringent punishment for those guilty of rape, particularly of girls below the age of 16 and 12 years. The ordinance also orders death sentence to those guilty of raping girls below the age of 12 years.


Indian airports got its 1st woman firefighter

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has appointed its first woman firefighter, Taniya Sanyal. Taniya is currently undergoing training in Delhi and will be appointed for AAI’s eastern region airports.


Kyrgyzstan Parliament names Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev prime minister

Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament named Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev Prime Minister after his nomination by the Social Democratic party which leads the ruling coalition. Abylgaziyev, previously chief of staff in President Sooronbai Jeenbekov’s office, replaced Sapar Isakov whose cabinet lost a no-confidence vote.
