K.T. Irfan wins bronze in Asian 20 KM Race walk

National record holder K.T. Irfan won the bronze medal in Men’s 20 KM race walk event at the Asian Race walking Championships in NOmi, Japan on March 19,2017. The 27 year old army athlete clocked an impressive 01-20-59 to clinch the title. In Addition, Korea’s Kim Hyun-Sub took the gold medal in 1:19:50 while Georgiy Sheiko of Kazakhstan bagged the silver medal in 01:20:47. It was Kim’s third consecutive gold in the event.


Norway is the happiest place in the world

Norway is the happiest place on the earth. It has over taking nearby Denmark from the No.1 position according to the World Happiness Report. Norway moved up from fourth place in the United Nations report with Iceland in third, Switzerland in fourth, and Finland in fifth. The United states is No.14 and United Kingdom is No.19 positions.


Indian – American Amul Thapar in top judicial post in America

An Indian American legal luminary has been nominated by US President Donald Trump to a Key Judicial position on the powerful US court of Appeals. Amul Thapar, 47, is the first Indian – American to be nominated by Trump for a top judicial post in America. Thaper will be part of the powerful US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears appeals from the states Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan.


Rajya Sabha passes HIV, AIDS Bill, 2017 by Voice Vote

The Upper House of Indian Parliament, Rajya Sabha passed the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and AIDS prevention and control Bill, 2014 by voice vote on 21 March 2017. The bill, which includes provisions that ensure equal rights to people affiliated by HIV and AIDS in getting treatment and admission in educational institutions and jobs, was introduced in the house on the same day.


March 22 World Water Day

The World Water Day (WWD) was observed globally on 22 March 2017 with the theme why waste water? The year’s theme for the World Water day focuses on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse as over so percent of all the wastewater. The theme highlights that wastewater flows from homes, cities, industries, and agriculture to nature. The theme seeks to improve the collection and treatment of wastewater and safe usability of the same.


SBBJ, SBH, SBP, SBM and SBT to Operate as SBI from April 1st

Reserve Bank of India has made an announcement that all the branches of its five associate banks will operate as branches of State Bank of India, effective from April 1, 2017. The associate banks are State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ), State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), State Bank of Patiala (SBP) State Bank of Mysore (SBM), State Bank of Travancore (SBI) Customers, including depositors of all the above five treated as customers of State Bank of India (SBI) from April 1st.


Vidya Pillai bagged Silver in Women’s World Snooker

India’s Vidya Pillai produced a spirited performance before settling for Silver in the World Women Snooker Championship Singapore. Vidya reached final and was all set to clinch the gold with a lead of 4-2 but unfortunately couple of unforced errors gave hold to Hong Kong’s best bet and former World Champion Ng On Yee. who won the next three frames in a row to take 5-4 led. With that Vidya settled for silver, securing the first international medal for India in 2017.


Major Rohit Suri awarded Kirti Chakra

Major Rohit Suri, who led the army team that carried out the daring cross-border surgical strike last year. He was on 20 March 2017 decorated with second highest peacetime gallantry award Kirti Chakra by President Pranab Mukherjee. Corporal Gursevak Singh of Indian Air force was posthumously conferred the Shaurya Chakra for putting up a valiant fight against terrorists who had attacked the front line Pathankot air base in January last year.

BIRAC’s (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) has celebrated its fifth foundation day on March 20 – 21, 2017 with the theme “BIRAC @ 5: Impacting the Biotech Ecosystem”. Dr. Harsha Vardhan, Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences was the Chief Guest of 2017 foundation day while Y.S.Chowdary Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences was the Guest of Honour.
