Paul Biya wins 7th term as President of Cameroon
Paul Biya, won the 7th term as President of Cameroon. Paul Biya has been ruling Cameroon since 1982. He is 85 years old. He had won 71.3 % of the ballot in the presidential election. His rival Maurice Kamto came second with 14.2 % of the vote.


Vikas Sehgal is appointed as Cyient director
Cyient, IT firm, has appointed Vikas Sehgal as an independent director. Earlier, he was an executive vice-chairman of Rothschild Global Advisory for South and South East Asian region and global head of the automotive sector.


India’s longest bridge to be built across Brahmaputra
India’s longest river bridge will be built across the Brahmaputra, connecting Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya, and will cut road travel by 203 km as also travel time. The 19.3 km, four-lane bridge will be built by 2026-27, Government officials said.


1st Trilateral meeting among India, Afghanistan & Iran held in Tehran
The first trilateral meeting among India, Afghanistan and Iran of the Coordination Council of the Chabahar Agreement took place on in Tehran, Iran. The Indian delegation was led by Secretary (Economic Relations) TS Tirumurti. Detailed discussions were held between the three sides on full operationalisation of the trilateral Agreement for international transit and transport through Chabahar Port.


Invest India wins UN Investment Promotion award
The award was presented by Armenian President Armen Sarkissian to Deepak Bagla, the CEO of Invest India, in Geneva, Switzerland. The Awards have been given annually since 2002 as part of UNCTAD’s investment promotion and facilitation programme.


Sri Lankan Spinner Herath to retire after first England Test
Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath, the most successful left-arm spinner in test history, will retire after the series opener against England in Galle next month. Herath has taken 430 wickets in 92 tests and is 10th on the list of most successful bowlers in the five-day format. He has 34 five-wicket hauls and has taken 10 wickets or more on nine occasions.


Rs 728 cr capital infusion to Syndicate Bank from government
Public sector Syndicate Bank announced capital infusion of Rs 728 crore from the government in lieu of preferential allotment of shares. The government order issued that it would infuse Rs 728 crore to Syndicate Bank against preferential allotment of equity shares during 2018-19.


24 October: United Nations Day
The United Nations Day is celebrated on 24th of October every year. The Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. 2018 UN Day Concert will be in UN Headquarters in New York, with the theme ‘Traditions of Peace and Non-violence’.
