Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won presidential election in Maldives
Opposition leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the Maldives’ presidential election, a surprise defeat for President Abdulla Yameen. Results released by the Elections Commission showed Solih had secured 58.3% of the popular vote.


271 mn Indians moved out of poverty: UN
Over 270 million people in India moved out of poverty in the decade since 2005-06. It is according to the 2018 global Multidimensional Poverty Index released by United Nations. The Report stated that India’s poverty rate came down to 27.5% from 54.7% during the period.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Anil Kumar Chaudhary‘s name as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd. His tenure as CMD of SAIL is likely to be for a little over 2 years.

Mahendra Singh become the second most capped player for India in international cricket as he played his 505th match for India in the Super Four of Asia Cup 2018 against Pakistan. Before Dhoni, Rahul Dravid was the second most capped player for India with 504 caps in international cricket.


India successfully test fires Prithvi Defence vehicle
India successfully conducted an interceptor missile test off the Odisha coast, achieving a major milestone in developing a two-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system. According to Defence sources, the interceptor was launched from Abdul Kalam Island of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).


Lucknow Metro first from India to get this International award
The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has become the first ever metro rail corporation from India to bag the International ‘Royal Society For The Prevention Of Accidents’ (RoSPA) Award. LMRC has been given the Silver Award for its Phase 1A (North-South Corridor) in the Project/Infrastructure category for the year 2018.


SBI reassures NBFCs on liquidity concerns
The State Bank of India (SBI) asked non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) not to worry about credit availability as it would continue to support them. ‘There is no concern on liquidity of NBFCs in view of their liquid cash position and availability of committed lines’ SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar said.


Renowned filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passes away
Renowned filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away in Mumbai. She was 64. Lajmi, a director, producer and screenwriter, was known for working on real subjects. She was known for her women-oriented films like Rudaali, Daman Darmiyaan.
