Anupam Kher receives Kata Ratan Award

Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher was honoured with the Kala Ratan Award by vice president Hamid Ansari at Punjab University, Chandigarh. He was received this award for his contribution to Indian Cinema. Anupam Kher has completed almost four decades in Bollywood and worked in more than 400 films including several Hindi Block busters, superhits and International films. Kher honoured by Padma Shri in 2004, then received Padma Bhushan in 2016 by Govt of India.


West Bengal win Santosh Trophy for 32nd time

West Bengal listed the Santosh Trophy for the 32nd time after Manvir Singh struck in the 119 minute for a 1-0 win over Goa, extending their domination in the premier domestic football tournament. Aster playing out a goalless 90 minutes, Manvir finally came good in the dying moments of extra time to leave the home crowd shocked at the GMS stadium.


Kolkata to host final FIFA U-17 World Cup

The salt lake stadium of Kolkata is the front runner to host the final of FIFA U-17 World Cup next year, on October 28. The tournament will be held in India from October 06 to 28. A 13 member representative team from FIFA have approved the Salt Lake Stadium to host the mega event. The draw of the mega-event, to be held across six venues in India, will take place on July 7. A total of 52 matches will be played during the tournament.


Eminent Jurist T.R. andhyarujina Passes away

T.R. Andhyarujina was an Indian lawyer and Jurist. He was a designated senior advocate and Practiced at the Supreme Court of India. He was the Solicitor General of India from 1996 to 1998. Prior to that he was the Advocate General of Maharashtra from 1993 to 1995. He specialized in the field of constitutional law, human rights, public law and commercial law. He was the chairman of the committee on Banking Laws appointed by Govt of India in 1998.


KVB bags Best Small Bank Award

The Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) has been awarded as the “Best Small Bank” for 2016. With the Balance Sheet Size less than Rs.1 lakh crore. The Bank was adjudged by Business Today in association with KMPG. KVB Managing Director and CEO K. Venkataraman received the award from Maharashtra Minister of Finance and planning Sudhir Mungantiwar in the Presence of Former SEBI Chairman G. Damodaran in Mumbai.


Hyderabad to host 105th Indian Science Congress

Osmania University in Hyderabad will host the 105th Edition of “Indian Science Congress” during January 3-7, 2018. According to Achyuta Samanta, General President of Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) and founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar. The conference will be on the theme “Science and Technology Reaching the Unreached”. This will be the sixth time the University will be hosting the conference.


Purva Bar, Varun Kapur bags titles in Lining Israel open

Indian Shuttlers Purva Barve and Varun Kapur handed India double delight by winning their respective age group sections in the lining -Israel open 2017. The tournament was held at the sports the sports hall, rishon Lezion in Israel. Purva (rank No.70) won the title under-19 Women’s Singles by defeating lela Minadze of Russia by 26-6, 21-4. Varun defeated England’s Toby Dillingham by 21-10, 21-2 in Men’s Singles.


Satwik Sai Raj & Chirag won vietnam Open

Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India on 27 March 2017 won the Vietnam Open International Badminton Doubles title. To win the title, the sixth seeded Indian pair defeated the fifth seeded thai duo of Trawut Potiengan Nanthakam Jordphaisong in three games 17-21, 21-9, 21-15 at the summit clash in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was third maiden title to Indian Pain.


Banking services through SHG’s in Odisha

Odisha today became the first state in the country to carry financial inclusion and extend banking services to unbanked areas through Self Help Groups (SHGs). The state Government signed an agreement with State Bank of India (SBI) in this regard. Odisha is a pioneer State in carrying forward financial inclusion through close corperation between SHG’s and banks.


Vanitha Gupta Named CEO of the Leadership Conference

Vanitha Gupta, former Chief of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in the Obama Administration, was named the next CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and its sister organisation, The Leadership Conference Education Fund. Gupta the first Indian American to serve in that role at the pioneering organization which was found in 1950. Gupta will begin her new role on June 1.
