Maruti Suzuki board re-appointed Kenichi Ayukawa as MD & CEO
This would be Kenichi Ayukawa’s third three-year term as MD and CEO of Maruti. He first took over as MD and CEO of the company in March 2013 as Shinzo Nakanishi had attained the age of retirement. He played a major role in expanding the company’s market share beyond 50 per cent.
Azali Assoumani re-elected as the President of Comoros
Azali Assoumani was re-elected as the President of Comoros after defeating his closest rival, Mahamadou Ahamada in the election held by the electoral commission of the Indian Ocean Archipelago. 66 years old, Azali Assoumani who first took office in 2016, was credited with 60.77 percent votes whereas Mahamadou Ahamada got only 14.62 percent votes.
MPI 2018 report says Indias poverty rate has reduced drastically
According to the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index 2018 report, the four poorest states namely Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh were still home to 196 million MPI poor people, which was over half of all the MPI poor people in India.
Shambhu S Kumaran appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco
Shambhu S Kumaran, a 1995 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer has been appointed as next India’s Ambassador to Kingdom of Morocco. He presently works as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence. He will succeed Dr. Kheya Bhattacharya.
Veselin Matic Set to be India’s Basketball Coach
Veselin Matic, who took Iran to an Asian Games bronze medal in 2010, is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s basketball team. The Serbian’s name had been cleared by the sports ministry. A veteran international coach, Matic helped Iran qualify for its first ever World Championship (2010) with victory in the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship.
Neha Upadhyaya selected by Yale University among 2019 World Fellows
A social entrepreneur from India is among 16 persons selected by Yale University as the 2019 World Fellows. Neha Upadhyaya, based in New Delhi, founded GUNA Organics in 2014 that provides ethically-sourced organic food products grown by rural female Indian farmers.
Saina Nehwal named as TSJA sports person of the year
Badminton ace Saina Nehwal walked away with the Sportsperson of the Year award at the annual Telangana Sports Journalists Association (TSJA) Awards held at The Park. PV Sindhu was named the Outstanding Performer of the Year (female), Pullela Gopichand was awarded the Coach of the Year and the Indian badminton team was named the Team of the Year, while the Badminton Association of Telangana was awarded the Association of the Year.
Malayalam Writer & Poet Ashita Passes Away
Celebrated Malayalam writer and poet Ashita passed away at the age of 63 in Thrissur, after fighting a long battle with cancer. She was the recipient of myriad awards, and some include the Padmarajan Award – Thathagatha (2000), Lalithambika Antharjanam Award (1994) and Edaserri Award (1986).
