Arvind Saxena appointed as UPSC Chairman
President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Arvind Saxena as Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which conducts examination to select bureaucrats, diplomats and police officers. He will have tenure till August 2020, when he attains the age of 65 years. Prior to this appointment, he was working as acting Chairman of UPSC since June 2018. He had joined UPSC as member in May 2015.


LG appoints Brian Kwon as Mobile Business President
LG Electronics has announced that it has appointed Brian Kwon as the new president. He is replacing Hwang Jeong-hwan after one year. Brian Kwon is head of LG’s home entertainment business, from December 1. It comes after LG’s mobile business posted a loss of $410 million this year, including a $130.5 million net loss in the last quarter.


Azim Premji conferred Highest French Civilian Honour
Indian business tycoon and philanthropist Azim Premji was bestowed with the highest French civilian distinction, Knight of the Legion of Honour in Bengaluru. He received the award for his outstanding contribution to developing the information technology industry in India, his economic outreach in France and his laudable contribution to the society as a philanthropist.


FM Arun Jaitley released the book ‘Making of New India’
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, received the first copy of the book “Making of New India: Transformation under Modi Government”, from Shri Arun Jaitley, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs. Shri Jaitley formally released it at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.


Himachal Pradesh First State To Launch Single Emergency Number ‘112’
Himachal Pradesh became the first state to launch a pan-India single emergency number ‘112’ where all kinds of immediate help can be sought in urgent matters. Under this project, an Emergency Response Centre (ERC) has been established in Shimla along with 12 district command centres (DCCs), covering the entire state.


BCCI announces two-year ban for age frauds
From the 2018-19 season, any cricketer who is found guilty of tampering his/her date of birth will be disqualified and barred from participating in any BCCI tournament for a period of 2 years i.e. 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Earlier, a cricketer faced a ban of one year.


Varsha Varman wins gold medal in women’s trap in the National Shotgun
Varsha Varman, representing Madhya Pradesh, won the women’s trap gold at the ongoing 62nd national championship for shotgun events in New Delhi. Varsha, who narrowly missed qualifying for the Jakarta Asian Games final, shot 38 in the final to get the better of Junior World Cup finalist Soumya Gupta of Delhi, who ended with 37 hits for the silver medal.


Singer Mohammed Aziz passes away
Singer Mohammed Aziz has passed away aged 64 following a cardiac arrest in Mumbai. He was returning from Kolkata when he collapsed at the airport. Aziz, who did playback singing in Hindi, Bengali and Odia films, was known for songs like ‘My Name is Lakhan’, ‘Mard Tangewala’ and ‘Main Teri Mohabbat Mein’.
