World No Tobacco Day 31 May 2017

World No Tobacco Day was first introduced by the World Health Organization to be celebrated as a most recognized event all over the world in order to make people easily get aware of all the problems and health Complications occurred by the tobacco chewing or smoking to prevent all the health hazards to make the whole world free to tobacco and healthy world of people. It was first celebrated on 7th of April in the year 1988 and  later it was declared to be celebrated as No Tobacco day on 31st of May every year.


 George Kurian appointed as vice Chairperson of National Commission for Minorities

George Kurian has been appointed as Vice Chairperson of National Commission for Minorities on 30th May, 2017. He is a renowned social and educational activist from kerala. Other members of the commission are Sulekha Kumbhare Sunil Singhi and Vada Dasturji Khurshed Kaikobad Dastoor. The government had appointed noted social activist and former national general secretary of the BJP Minority Morcha, Syed Ghayoor Hasan Rizvi as commission’s Chairman.


 Amul Inks MoU with ISRO for Fodder Acreage Estimation

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) on 30 May, 2017 has signed an agreement with ISRO for fodder acreage assessment using satellite observation and space technology. GCMMF markets its products under the brand name of Amul. Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ISRO will help in Identification between food crops and fodder crops at village level and also locate suitable areas of current fallows and cultivable wastelands at village level for green fodder cultivation.


 IIT Kharagpur develops new pollution free, Biofuel

Researchers at IIt Kharagpur have developed a new technology which will change the way biofuel is manufactured by making the process Cheaper, quicker and pollution free, Professor of Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering Dr. Rintu Banerjee said the technique will ensure relatively quicker production of biofuel and the process is completely green. A new technology known as “soil- to-soil” manufacturing technology for manufacturing cheaper, quicker and pollution free.


 India to be first in World to run all govt ports on green energy

All 12 major domestic ports in India will soon switch to renewable energy to meet their power requirements. Thus India will become first in the world to run all govt ports on green energy. Indian Govt is planning to install 150 mw of solar power and 50 mw of wind power generation capacity by year 2019. The resulting 200 mw of renewable energy generation capacity will be ramped up to 500 mow in the next few years. Total initial investment in the project is expected to be Rs.500 crore.


 Kohli only Indian in top 10 of ICC ODI rankings

India captain Virat Kohli is the lone cricketer from the country to feature in the top 10 of the ICC players Rankings for ODIs as he managed to hold on to his third sport in the batsman’s chart. The top three batsmen South Africa’s AB de villiers (874 points), Australian David Warner (871 points) and Kohli (852) Points are separated by just 22 points. Among other Indians to feature in the top of 20 of the ICC players Rankings for ODI batsman Rohit Sharma (12th) M.S. Dhoni (13th) and Shikhar Dhawan, who draped a place to (15th)


 World Health Assembly (WHA 70) held in Geneva

70th World Health Assembly (WHA 70) was held from 22nd to 31st May, 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Margaret chan gave her last address as Director. General of the WHO, with her tenure coming to an end. Member State of WHO, elected Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as the new Director General of WHO. The World Health Assembly is the supreme decision making body for Who. It generally meets in Geneva in May each year, and is attended by delegations from all 194 Member States.


 PM Modi to lay foundation stone of bullet train project in September

PM Narendr Modi and Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe will together lay the foundation stone for the bullet train project in the Months of September. Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train will have the speed of 320 km per hour. The construction work would continue for another five years. And mentioned that the government was committed to complete the project by the end of 2022. The high speed train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is being constructed at a cost of Rs.97,636 crore in collaboration with Japan.


 Delhi Police launches Bicycle Patrols for better Policing

Delhi Police on 30 May, 2017 launched the Bicycle Patrols for better Policing in the capital. The Bicycle Patrols were flagged off by Union Minister of Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir. In the first phase, a total of 65 high end bicycles have been operationalised, out of 65 bicycles, 30 were allotted for North East district, 20 for East district and 15 for Shahdara district. The scheme will be extended to other areas of Delhi as well.
