Patrick Modiano Won 2014 Nobel Prize In Literature

French author Patrick Modiano has won the 2014 Nobel Prize In Literature. The Swedish Academy on 9 October awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature to the French author “for the art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation”. Last year’s award went to the Canadian short story writer Alice Munro.


Veteran Journalist M V Kamath Died

Veteran journalist and former chairman of Prasar Bharati MV Kamath, who was one of the earliest biographers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, died on 9 October. He was 93. Kamath was the Washington correspondent of the Times of India from 1969 to 1978. He was also the editor of Illustrated Weekly of India and has also worked for the Press Trust of India. Kamath was the honorary director of School of Communication, Manipal University since its inception in 1997. He was awarded Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian journalism in 2004.


World Post Day Observed Across The World

World Post Day was on 9 October 2014 observed across the world with an aim to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and business’s everyday lives as well as its contribution to the social and economic development of countries. In 1969, Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo (Japan) declared a day to be observed as the World Post Day, since then it is observed yearly.


Kalpana Morparia Appointed As First Woman Director Of HUL

Kalpana Morparia was appointed as first woman director of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) on 9 October 2014.She was appointed as Director so as to meet  the deadline set under the sub-section (1) of the Section 149 of the Companies Act, 2013.


Aamir Khan Appointed As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in South Asia. Aamir Khan will focus on supporting child nutrition to end stunting across the region.
