Damon And Baby Release Date
Damon and Baby is set to release on March 26, 2026, for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
That’s the global launch date Arc System Works has locked in, and the Nintendo eShop and Steam store pages are already live, so you can wishlist it while you wait.
It’s close enough that it feels real, but still far enough away that you’ll probably forget once, then get pleasantly surprised when the “available now” notifications start popping up.
I like this timing for a game like this. Late March is that slightly quieter window after the big Q1 heavy-hitters, which gives a quirky twin-stick action adventure a better chance to breathe.
And because it’s coming to basically everything except your toaster, it’s easy to just pick your platform and not overthink it. If you’re someone who loves playing ArcSys games on a handheld, the Switch version being day one is a nice little bonus.
What Damon And Baby is Actually About
Damon and Baby is about a demon lord who loses his powers and gets magically tethered to a human child, then has to drag that kid across realms to break the curse before it breaks him.
The setup is surprisingly emotional for something that looks so chaotic at first glance. Damon, a demon with big ambitions of becoming Archdemon King, makes a deal with his best friend: he’ll protect the man’s child in exchange for the guy’s soul later.
But the friend dies and ascends to Heaven before the bargain is sealed, and that little “breach of contract” strips Damon of his powers and binds him to the baby so they can’t be separated by more than a short distance.
From there, the story turns into a road trip through the Celestial Realm and beyond. Demons start hunting them, convinced the child is important and must be taken away, and Damon – who absolutely did not sign up for fatherhood – ends up forced into a reluctant guardian role. He’s joined by:
- Tinatana, an angel from Heaven’s Ministry of Health, acting like a heavenly HR rep in charge of meals and performance evaluations.
- Hannemann, a vampire mafioso from Seattle who fights as a bat and sounds like someone who knows too many good coffee spots.
- Manjumaru, a legendary demon hunter who got “blessed” into a goose and now channels all his hatred into angry honking.
It’s all very anime in the best way: big feelings, cursed contracts, absurd transformations, and found family layered under jokes. Honestly, the moment I read “samurai trapped in the body of a goose,” I stopped trying to pretend I wasn’t interested.
Gameplay: Twin-Stick Chaos With Some Heart
On the gameplay side, Damon and Baby mix twin-stick shooting with light exploration and progression.
Arc System Works describes it as a fusion of shooting action and adventuring: you alternate between a home base phase and exploration phases out in the world. At base, you:
- Power up Damon
- Buy gear and upgrades
- Customize skills and even outfits
Then you head out into stages where you:
- Use close-range and long-range guns (handguns, machine guns, and more)
- Clear enemies, deal with environmental gimmicks
- Fight bosses that demand a bit of positioning and strategy, not just holding the trigger
Damon grows over time, picking up new weapons and abilities, and you can tweak your build to lean more into raw damage, mobility, or utility.
There’s also a canine companion you can control in certain moments to help with item collection and support in combat, which feels very “controller pass” friendly if you’ve ever had someone on the couch who “doesn’t want to play” but somehow always ends up helping.
It’s not trying to be a super-hard roguelike or a massive open-world grind. It looks more like that sweet spot where you can jump in after work, clear a level or two, laugh at some character banter, and still feel like you made progress.
Why Damon and Baby Have People Talking
Beyond the core concept, Damon and Baby have a few extra hooks that are making people pay attention.
First, character designs are by Daisuke Ishiwatari, the creative mind behind Guilty Gear, so if you’ve ever loved how those games look – sharp silhouettes, weird but memorable designs, a bit of rockstar attitude – you’ll recognize that DNA here immediately.
Second, the game promises cameos from Guilty Gear and BlazBlue characters, which is catnip for fighting game fans who’ve basically grown up with ArcSys’ style.
It’s not a crossover fighter, but those little appearances can go a long way in making the world feel like part of a bigger, slightly unhinged multiverse.
Personally, I’m into games that don’t take themselves too seriously but still care about their characters. A demon king stuck babysitting, an angel doing performance reviews, a vampire from Seattle and an angry goose samurai sounds like the kind of party you remember long after you’ve forgotten the exact stats of your favorite gun.
If the writing lands – and ArcSys has a decent track record when they lean into quirky worldbuilding – Damon and Baby might end up being one of those cult favorites people recommend with, “Just trust me and play it.”
