2xko How to Unlock Characters
You unlock characters in 2XKO by spending either Champion Tokens, Green Credits, or KO Points on the champion you want.
Each locked fighter has the same basic price, so the real decision is which currency to use based on how much time or money is available.
Here is the general cost per champion:
-
1 Champion Token, or
-
10,000 Green Credits, or
-
10,000 KO Points.
Champion Tokens work like “golden tickets” for a single fighter, often bundled with small extras like cosmetics.
Green Credits are the free, grindable option earned just by playing, while KO Points are the instant unlock path for players who prefer to spend money instead of time.
How Champion Tokens Work
Champion Tokens are mainly used to unlock one full champion bundle with a single click. They are limited but powerful, so most players treat them as precious and save them for mains or top-tier picks.
Tokens usually come from:
-
Early missions like “Play First Fight” and the “12 First Steps” tutorial path.
-
Occasional promotions, Starter Editions, or bundles around launch.
A common early-game pattern looks like this: finish the tutorial, get a couple of tokens, unlock one aggressive bruiser and one safe ranged character, then slowly add more champs with Credits over time.
Many players talk about unlocking a favorite character instantly with that first token and then living with that choice for weeks, which makes those first decisions feel surprisingly tense.
on X, Avataryaya (@avataryaya_) recently pointed out, finishing the tutorials in 2XKO rewards players with two free Champion Tokens, effectively giving a head start by unlocking two characters at no extra cost.
Free Unlocks With Green Credits
You can unlock 2XKO characters for free by grinding Green Credits from matches and missions. It takes longer than paying, but it steadily builds a full roster without spending real money.
Green Credits come from:
-
Daily and weekly missions.
-
Casual and ranked matches (even simple wins give a small amount, like 20 Credits per casual win as a rough baseline in some reports).
Because each champion costs 10,000 Credits, many players focus on:
-
Using early Tokens for two core mains.
-
Then saving Credits for role coverage (for example, one rushdown, one zoner, one support-style champ).
It feels a bit like saving allowance for a game back in school: slow, sometimes frustrating, but oddly satisfying when the unlock finally hits.
Some players even build small personal goals, like “one new champ every two weeks,” to keep the grind from feeling too heavy.
Unlocking with KO Points (paid)
You can unlock any character instantly by buying KO Points and spending 10,000 KO Points per champion. This path is for those who value time more than in-game grind.
KO Points are:
-
Bought directly from the in-game store with real money.
-
Spent in exactly the same way as Credits at the champion screen, just much faster.
Many players use KO Points to grab a new meta pick right before ranked sessions or tournaments, especially when a balance patch suddenly pushes a character into the spotlight.
It is not required to compete, but for players who enjoy staying on top of the meta from day one, KO Points become a convenience tool more than a luxury.
New Champs, Events, and the Latest Update
New characters in 2XKO often arrive with special recruitment events that let you unlock them for free if you play enough during a limited window. The most recent example is Caitlyn, who can currently be unlocked in several ways.
As of today, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the latest patch 1.1.1 includes:
Caitlyn available through:
-
1,000 KO Points,
-
1 Champion Token,
-
An Ultra Battle Pass bundle, or
-
A free Champion Recruitment Event that runs for three weeks.
After the three-week event, Caitlyn moves to the standard 10,000 Credits price like other champs.
A small but important fix in this same update corrected a bug where going straight to the champion roster sometimes disabled “Unlock” offers, which means character unlocking should now work more reliably for everyone.
For players just jumping in on launch day, the easiest path is simple:
-
Play the tutorial to grab early Champion Tokens.
-
Test everyone in Training or Offline mode, where all champs are available to try even if not unlocked.
-
Spend Tokens on the two fighters that feel best, then use Credits and, if preferred, KO Points to slowly round out the roster over time.
This approach keeps the process flexible, avoids wasted currency, and lets the roster grow in a way that feels personal rather than forced.
